Bethesda Residence Gets New Roofing, Siding, Paint and Shutters!

Paul & Mary Day of Bethesda , MD recently completed an exterior renovation of their single family home. Their project consisted of a roof replacement, siding and shutter replacement, a new gutter system and exterior paintwork.

They had been considering a remodel of the exterior of their home for about two years, and had seen American Custom Contractors complete work in their neighborhood. However, it was not until specific problems with their roof system were pointed out by a Field Representative from American Custom Contractors that the Days decided to proceed with the estimating process. Andrew Barrie, a Project Consultant with American Custom Contractors, worked with the Days to provide insight into the status of their roof system, and potential problems that could arise in the near future if these issues were ignored.

The Day's roofing system showed evidence of significant wear and tear, causing the asphalt shingles to curl and crack in several places. Additionally, Andrew found the attic ventilation to be insufficient based on manufacturer standards, which was impacting the long term performance of the roof system. The Days were unsure about which products would be best suited for their home, so Andrew completed an evaluation to determine which products would best fit their needs, budget and would enhance the aesthetic qualities of their home.

After the initial roof and attic inspection, Andrew reviewed his findings with the Day family, along with some solutions to bring the ventilation system up to industry standards and the various product options available. The Day's decided to proceed with the Certainteed Independence roof system which comes with a lifetime material warranty. American Custom Contractors also included the 5-Star Sure Start Warranty coverage, available only through SELECT Shingle Roofers who are certified by the manufacturer. This extended warranty provides additional coverage on the materials and labor for Certainteed Integrity Roof Systems. The Day's were also interested in replacing the vinyl siding and shutters on their home and garage, and based on the options that Andrew presented they decided to work with the Certainteed Monogram vinyl siding system.

When the roofing, siding and shutter installations were complete the Day's inquired about a painting project that would transform the aesthetics of their home's façade. The previously existing façade was a natural brick front and they were interested in using a residential, high quality grade paint product that would brighten the exterior appearance of their home. American Custom Contractors used Benjamin Moore paint on the brickwork of their home and the wood trim, creating a uniform color scheme to compliment their new roof, siding and shutters.

When asked if the Days have any advice for other homeowners seeking to choose a contractor, they advise to look for a good product that can be delivered by a reputable company in a realistic time frame. They knew that they had several projects they wanted to complete, but were not sure about the best products for their home.
